St. Anthony's College

In years 7, 8 and 9 we aim to give a broad outlook on scientific enquiry works liking it to new discoveries and research and milestones in the history of science which are just as important.

Understanding science helps us to be good members of the community, it helps with problem solving – thinking up ways of investigating things, interpreting information gained from the study. Working together in groups, collaborating with other people is fundamental in science and all helps to consolidate knowledge and understanding.

Key Stage 3 is an important stepping stone for students, it bridges the gap from primary and leads up to GCSE and A Levels. All the ground work is carried out here, and with guidance can often create the pathway which the student chooses when choosing options in Year 9 to deciding the GCSE subjects to take.

The students will receive instruction under the banner of ‘Science’ but it will be divided into distinct areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We give students equal opportunity to work in all of the three disciplines without prejudice as they often have pre-conceived ideas about what they like or dislike. Students are encouraged to carry out project work and investigations. In Year 9 our target will be Cambridge University Checkpoint Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in Science.

Head of the Department: Ms. Susanna Mulligan
