Law
Law is offered to students at AS and A2 level and requires no prior knowledge of the subject. The study of law helps students to develop the skills of analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving through the application of legal rules.
The study of law at this level will provide students with a good background for further study as a main subject for those wishing to take up a career in the legal system, and will benefit those students who may wish to undertake degree, or professional, courses where there is a law component.
In addition, the study of law at this level will benefit all students who may wish to take up a career in business on leaving school.
During the first year of the course students will study law making and the legal system and be introduced to criminal liability and the laws of contract and tort. Assessment is by examinations made up of two externally marked papers of equal weighting.
The second year requires the student to choose between studying criminal offences against the person and property, or to further develop their knowledge in contract and tort.. In addition all students will be required to study the concepts of law, that is, the law and morals, the law and justice and judicial creativity. Assessment is by examination of two externally marked papers.
