In the world today, communication is becoming the fundamental tool in all domains; not only in the world of competition for a better preparation but for human developing. Languages are the door to new cultures, new people and a better understanding of the world.
That´s why in St. Anthony´s College we try to give to the french language the treatment of a skill for life.
The French department uses for that purpose audiovisual resources, specific material for all grammar areas and cultural trips.
Key stage 3 (years 7 to 9)
The aim of these first years of French is to give a perspective of the language covering different areas such as basic communication, everyday situations and french culture aspects.
Following the CCSE standards, we give the pupils an approach to all these aspects focusing on the idea that a language is not an ordinary subject simply useful for exams.
Key Stage 4 (years 10-11)
The two-years course which is the GCSE exam, covers different areas:
1.- At home and abroad
2.- House, home and daily routine.
3.- Media, entertainment and youth culture.
4.- Education, training and employment.
All that preparation will be tested on 4 different exams:
- Oral exam
- Listening and writing
- Reading and responding
- Writing
A levels (AS and A2) (years 12 and 13)
Students arrive to A levels with a basic level of the subject which must be reinforced by oral practising, grammar aspects and a knowledge of the reality of french-speaking countries.
The aim of the french department on that process is to go deep into all aspects of the language by reinforcing grammar, oral expression and stimulating the interest in various cultural aspects and reality od the world today.
The A-level french covers four units during the two years, covering areas like research, , understanding, oral expression and specific written tasks.
