This is a two year course for KS 4, Years 10 and 11. It is built around development of understanding and use of the language in English 1, 2 and 3. This concludes with 3 examinations, of which the first two, Reading and Writing (Paper 1) and Listening (Paper 2) are compulsory and third, Speaking (Paper 3), is not.

These are reported as two separate grades and a pass in the Reading and Writing and Listening components can help second language speakers qualify for entry into some English and American universities.
