Business

Business is offered to students at both GCSE and A level and requires no prior knowledge of the subject at either level.   Why study Business?    Business is the world we live in and touches everyone of us in all aspects of our daily life.   Whether students wish to study the subject at university or not, all will eventually be in work and their understanding of business will prepare them for the future.

GCSE
At this level students will be required to demonstrate specified knowledge and a critical understanding of the relationship between business activity and the changing environment in which it takes place.

By understanding the structure, organisation, and control of the main forms of business, and the way that they are managed in a competitive world, will help students to acquire a range of important and transferable skills.

In order to develop these skills all students will take part in our ‘Enterprise Challenge’.   In this way groups of students, under supervision, will have the chance to set up their own businesses and, through good management and enterprise, develop their ideas whilst managing their success.

A Level
It is not essential that prospective students have any prior knowledge of the subject however, it may be advantageous due to the volume of knowledge required to be successful in examinations.

The course will develop the transferable skills of presenting arguments, making judgements, problem solving, decision making, data manipulation, work planning and research.

Students will be able to develop a critical understanding of the internal functions of business, the dynamic external environment within which it operates, how businesses respond to these issues, and the different perspectives that the various stakeholders take on business.

Assessment is by examination with the first two units, Planning and Financing Business, and Managing Business undertaken in the first year.  In the second year students will undertake a further two examinations in Strategies for Success and The Business Environment and Managing Change.
