Art and Design within St Anthony’s is very diverse. The course aims to develop students understanding of materials and techniques, artists and movements. Throughout different projects students learn to appreciate the work of others as well as develop a sense of pride through completing and refining an idea from start to finish.
Key Stage 4 - GCSE
During the 2 Year Art GCSE pupils develop and refine skills needed to produce a minimum of 2 projects. Within each project both sketchpads and finished pieces are necessary, this should show development of ideas, cultural understanding, comprehension of artists and their influences allowing students to use this information to produce their own art pieces with a clear understanding of their context within the project.
At the end of the course a practical examination of 10 hours is taken as a culmination of ideas and research which is prepared over an 8 week period prior to the 10 hrs.

A Level
This is very similar to the GCSE course with a greater emphasis on developing a more personal response whilst gaining confidence and ability with practical skills. The timed examination for the AS is 8 hours and A2 is 12 hours in which a practical piece of work is completed and prepared for.
Within the A2 course a written assignment is also incorporated allowing pupils to develop a more coherent understanding of a range of artists within their chosen topic and field.
