STUDY IN THE SIXTH FORM AT ST. ANTHONY’S  COLLEGE

It is important to choose courses you think you will enjoy, but also those that offer you  the greatest chance of success.  Experience shows us that GCSE grades are a good guide when considering suitability for a subject and tutors will discuss your achievements with you at interview on enrolment.
Using the table below it is possible to convert your GCSE grades to points.

GRADE POINTS
A* 8
A 7
B 6
C 5
D 4
E 3
F 2
G 1
Class of 2008.6th Former Working!

Once the conversion has been made your score is added up and the average calculated by dividing the total points by the number of subjects taken.

Example:

1 X A* = 8 POINTS
2 X A = 14 POINTS
3 X C = 15 POINTS
1 X D = 4 POINTS
TOTAL     = 53/9 = 5.9

To study at A level a student would be likely to achieve a minimum of 4.0 to 5.0.

Some of our subjects will state an entry requirement, e.g. Grade C in Mathematics and English, bearing in mind that most universities require these grades  before you can consider entry to any course.  Students may experience difficulty in progressing on to an Advance level programme without them.

You will be advised to have at least four courses on your timetable to provide breadth to your studies. It will also help you make effective use of your time.

St. Anthony’s College has a good reputation for its successful teaching of advanced level programmes.  All A levels courses are divided into two parts, in many subjects this will involve two or three AS units in Year 12 followed by a further two or three units in Year 13.

The standard programme is equivalent to either 4 full A levels, or 3 full A levels and 1 or 2 subjects to AS level.  Some students will not want to do this, so we will try to give you a course that will be dependant upon your ability and aspirations.

We are proud of the results of our students and we do not artificially inflate the entrance requirements in order to guarantee success.  We maintain an open policy and are committed to continuing the improvement of students’ achievement and helping them gain good career prospects or places at University via UCAS.  St. Anthony’s has an excellent record for students gaining first choice places in top Universities in the United Kingdom, U.S.A. and Europe.
