ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Grade A - C at GCSE – ART
GRADE B or above in English Language
COURSE CONTENT:
The qualification aims to develop:
· Intellectual, imaginative, creative, and intuitive powers.
· Investigative, analytical, experimental, practical, technical, and expressive skills,
aesthetic understanding, and critical judgement.
· Knowledge and understanding of art and design in contemporary society and in
other times and cultures.
AS (Advance Subsidiary GCE)
A one year course comprising two separate units of work.
Each unit of work consists of a comprehensive sketchbook and a final piece of work.
These units are as follows;
Unit 1 - Thematic Enquiry – Internally set coursework.
Unit 2 - Externally Set Assignment.
Plus (six weeks’ preparation and an eight hour examination).
A2 (Advanced GCE)
This is a two year course comprising four separate units of work. It is a continuation
of the AS course.
Unit 3 –Thematic enquiry – Internally set coursework
Personal study (written assignment).
Unit 4 - Externally Set Assignment (A2).
Plus (six weeks’ preparation and a twelve hour exam).
Contrary to popular belief Art is not a ‘soft option’. Therefore only highly motivated
students, who are willing to dedicate a great deal of personal study time, will be
considered.
